My second book, Ever Flowing On: On being and becoming oneself is a book for a general readership and was my first attempt to write less academically and more from the heart. But then I reminded myself that not everything can be priced! What better example of that than the Ocean, something that brought all life to be on the planet, but which also is the place we know least about.
The Ocean brought all life to this planet. I love to explore the creation story of all works of art, particularly music, and the story of Ocean is one of the most intriguing I've heard. John : In your Healing Sound Series you began with The River, which led to the Ocean album. A dream I had as a child, besides being a musician, was actually to be a filmmaker a dream I do plan to fulfill when I grow up! They are also part of the larger Healing Sound Project which I have been dedicated to for the last 8 years. Thank goodness I did take a flute with me! It climbed to 1 on the Chart in February 2009.
He has been the featured musician for renowned poets Robert Bly and David Whyte and played and studied with Grammy winner David Darling in addition to many other Grammy and Grammy nominated recording artists. We lived for many days in a hotel without electricity, and I remember the strange feeling of no cell phones working, no computers working, certainly no recording equipment working. In closing, my prayer is for you to find a deep, abiding peace within your own heart on your own deeply personal adventure of self-discovery and journey towards wholeness! The River actually arose out of my work with hospice patients and my belief that life is like a river — and that when we die — like the river — we just change form as we empty our being into the vastness of Being itself — the Ocean. It only makes sense to me to do the same thing with an album. I really like that idea — and I personally experience it that way. The Ocean is the great mother of the watersheds of earth - without which we could not live. The surface itself is strangely obstinate, giving little indication of the life below.
What was the most recent instance, and how did the music influence your writing? While writing this review I learned Michael was among those who lost their family home during the 2004 — 2005 hurricane seasons, so his therapy support does arrive from a first person perspective. Have you heard of it?. These are my tone prayers and sound poems offered up in honor and respect of the wisdom of the ocean waters. Two in particular, David Darling and R. Perhaps just by speaking it out loud to a friend or writing it down in a journal. Then the next turning point musically came when I was 9 years old when I heard my first live jazz at the local high school auditorium. Would you like to advertise on Wildy's World? Not only was Ocean competing with luminaries and legends in the New Age world, Ocean happened to be up against albums by Olivia Newton John and Tina Turner who both had their entries in the New Age category this year. Planet Earth from the beginning was destined to be one of our greatest mysteries, where every life form and those yet to be discovered remain more dependent on our mysterious world rather than this blue planet would ever depend on us.
Do you mind telling about this past event, and what is your musical objective for you and the listener? It went on to win a Native American Music Award in October 2009 in the Native Heart category. It was the first time I had ever heard the Native American Flute and it literally brought tears to my eyes. The water had always been a source of relaxation and peace for me — now it looked anything but — an ominous, unpredictable and dangerous force. Down in its heart this tune has a great deal of movement and life. Yes, Ocean is very New Age, but I think it grows out of that and becomes an album which should appeal to those who listen to ambient and electronica. But in that inner world I began to learn to let go again and float. The oceans of the world touch every continent, every people, every culture on our planet.
It was a devastating blow to our lives. Our culture is the only culture on the planet that has used music primarily as a form of entertainment. The more I slowly but surely worked on the pieces, the more I realized that I was doing what I had done at a very young age.
