Using a hammer on the back, remove the rotor. However, I was unable to locate the source initially. My local repair shop told me it would be several days to get parts and repair the damage. Nissan usa said they will not do anything for me, especially since I don't pay them to do my scheduled maintenance. All the above problems occured and still are occuring within first 3500 miles!! Investigation found the front differential failed, which is a common problem with Nissan four wheel drive vehicles of this vintage. Then later on that day I was turning to the left it clumped again now when going staight it clunk had and then I drained the oil and gas metal teeth from the spider gear was in the oil.
I discovered the linkage from the gearshift lever to the cable had separated. I have always maintained my vehicles and not abuse them. I was also contacted by an attorney who informed me that he was conducting a law suite and wanted to know what issues I have had. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power while at a stop. This is unacceptable and someone needs to do something about it. Pence nissan replaced the entire rear end unit as they did with other trucks with the same problem. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.
I do not know what could have happened. Previous designs of this axle, as used by other manufacturers, pressed the seal into the retainer and then sealed the retainer to the housing with a gasket. I did not notice this until I was on the street. If Nissan knows the axle is faulty and requires the axle to be replaced instead of just replacing the seal then they should be responsible and pay for the fix under a recall. Would rather pay more than ride rubbish.
They also denied the warranty claim. This vehicle is used for mostly for local trips with occasional trailer towing that is well within the design limits as advertised by the manufacturer. Another problem that Nissan will not cover is the rear axle seals that blow out due to a faulty design which may also lead to a serious accident, they will not address any of these issues under a recall an there are thousands of people that are suffering from these issues from 04-010 for the axle seals and model years 04-08 for the axle shaft pulling out from the 4X4 causing serious damage to internal and external parts. I then drove straight to the Nissan dealership which fortunately was only two miles away. Again, this should not be happening to this vehicle as it does not get much heavy use. There is 51000 miles on it and around 22,000 miles I put a lift on it.
The failure mileage was 134,000. I took it to my Nissan dealership 2 or 3 times and they said that everything was fine and that it was just my suspension that was making the noise. I do mostly city driving. All the while, being carefull of the spring in the posi unit. The power steering line has been replaced three times in two months. This occurred when I was either driving 20 mph up to 65 mph.
Buy a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge and save yourself some money and headaches. This sounds like a ripoff. Inspected undercarriage and found left rear axle seal leaking coating rear brakes and wheel assemblies. Someone getting out of the vehicle while it is still running will then have a runaway vehicle. .
The first blew on warranty at approx 10K miles. After having truck repaired at local shop also found out that nissan has designed a entire new differential to fix this issue. I rarely pull trailers, or any heavy load. The contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and the vehicle rolled away in reverse and into the street. The indicator light comes on and shows that it should be in 4 wheel drive but it is not.
At 15k limp mode again as turning to interstate ramp. I didn't think anymore about it until the next day when I noticed a big puddle of oil on driveway. Keep it apart, you'll be glad you did. The leaking differential fluid will caused the rear differential to fail. The 4 wheel drive actuator will also have to be disconnected and there are two nuts on the opposite end from the center section of the diff. Still waiting to see why they are going to do about it. The dealer also stated that the radiator had failed and replaced it without authorization.
Got out of car and could see that something in left front suspension hanging out and some kind of fluid everywhere. Nissan claims they've never heard of any problems before. The front driver side axle is popping out of the front differential housing. Should this occur with any speed, death could easily be the result. It was fixed once on my dime and is now going to be fixed on my dime again it is a dangerous failure that could cause my suspension to lock up an rip my wheel off then leading to a serious accident. The contact stated that the steering wheel began to shake and rattle.
